Hi All,
I'm still in confusion whether to buy either podium 10" or 12" powered monitors for the live performance with Tyros3.I think some of you tried 12" speakers also.I have some questions.
1.Is there any much sound quality difference between 10" and 12" monitors?
2.Is 12" monitor convenient to carry?
3. Which is most suitable for the live perforamance either 10" or 12"?
Please give your advice.

Sunny try the 802's everyone I've heard from loves them.

And some have overheated them...

How about asking what somebody already uses, how loud they play, who they play to, what kind of music they play? You know, things that MIGHT factor into the correct response?

Tell us more, sunny, and you'll get more than a guess. One thing that's a universal, though. A 12" is always heavier than a 10" And convenience is in the eye of the beholder. I don't find my G70 inconvenient

The rule of thumb is, a 12" from the same manufacturer to a 10" (and an 8" ) will be louder, deeper and heavier. Whether you NEED that volume and depth (and weight) is for you to decide...

Fran has put the 802's thru a torture test on & off stage and still approves highly of them...

It's all about volume. Up to a certain point, even a 1" speaker is flat... Heck, even tiny earbud headphones claim frequency responses down to 30Hz or lower. But they have to be VERY quiet and VERY close to your ears.

I'm not saying the 802's are inadequate. But until Sunny specifies what volume and what bass response is needed, surely it's best to wait for more info is provided before a blanket recommendation is given?

Are you using 802's Donny? Surely, if good enough for a blanket recommendation without any info, they would be good enough for you for ALL circumstances as well?

I play hour gigs (arranger solo) through them in stereo. I sing (harmonizer too) and play and use many different instruments for the one-man-band routine.

My audiences range from 20 - 150 max and they handle the rooms quite well. On the large jobs/rooms, I use about 1/2 the power available to achieve results.

I hear from the crowd and my own ears that they are extremely clean and powerful - way good enough for my needs. I can't comment on the throw, although I see the back row leaning in to talk I suppose they're somewhat balanced room-wise. I am one to like the stereo field.

For the extra $50 over the 8s, definitely go for the 10s (still portable and you'll appreciate the handle).

I have never listened to the 10's or 12's...but as Diki says..the larger size from the same manufacturer..usually means better volume...

Diki I only use the 802's as monitors in our large rooms ..with 12" Yorkvilles and Yorkville sub..

Although my mid size jobs as we play this month..we have been just using a pair of 802's..I EQ my keyboards for more bass...and they kick butt....I never had any kind of failure yet...and never needed more than half volume..This month's gig averages around 300 people..

yes,

a large crowd/room to some is playing for 75-100 people, then maybe those 10" will be ok,

but a large crowd/room for me is 350+, then those 10's will NEVER be ok,

so it's all relative, depends what you need,
